1)Towns emerged around temples such as those of Bhillasvamin (Bhilsa or Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh), and Somnath in Gujarat. Other important temple towns included Kanchipuram and Madurai in Tamil Nadu, and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
2)People from distant lands visited Surat because it was the gateway of trade with west Asia. It was also famous for its Zari textiles which had a huge market in west Asia, Africa and Europe.
3) (a) The two factors on which the growth of vegetation mostly depends are— temperature and moisture. (b) The three broad categories of natural vegetation are—forests, grasslands and shrubs.
