We need to identify odd one that is different one from the given two sets.

(a) Given sets is 89, 78 , 86 , 80 , 85 , 82 , 83.

For 89, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 9.

For 78, digit at tens place is 7 and digit at ones place is 8.

For 86, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 6.

For 80, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 0.

For 85, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 5.

For 82, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 2.

For 83, digit at tens place is 8 and digit at ones place is 3.

So except 78 having digit 8 at ones place , all other numbers that are 89 , 86 , 80 , 85 , 82 and 83 have number at tens place. So 78 is odd one.

Fourth digit that is 6 is common for all the given five numbers. So let’s concentrate on only first three digit numbers.

123, 234 , 345 , 456 , 568.

If we observe the first three digits only, it forms a pattern where second number of previous term becomes first number of next term and then next two numbers of first number appears. Example is in 234, 3 becomes first digit of next term and next two numbers of 3 that are 4 and 5 appears to form complete three digits. That is 345.  

But the logic is not working for last number. After 456, expected number must be 567 but it is coming as 568.
