Answer:

A nanometer is used to measure things that are very small. Atoms and molecules, the smallest pieces of everything around us, are measured in nanometers. For example a water molecule is less than one nanometer. A typical germ is about 1,000 nanometers.

Answer:

Nanometer structure holds the promise of new materials for numerous functions. Table 7.11 gives the special features of nanometer composites (Chopra, Private communication, 2001). A schematic construction of a nanometer composite is shown in Fig. 7.27 originally proposed by Newnham et al.31 The composites comprise 12 types of structures, 0-0, 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc. The size of each element is in nanometers and is on the order of wavelength of an electron wave. The nanometer composites show the quantum effect. The 0-0 and 1-1 structures correspond to quantum dots and quantum wires, respectively. The 2-2 composite is a nanometer multilayered structure.
