Q.1) Read the following passage and answer the questions set below it:-
Long ago there were thick forests near the city of Varanasi. The village carpenters
often sailed up the river to the forests for wood. They often stayed in the forests
for weeks till they had cut all the wood they needed to take back with them. There
also lived many elephants in the forest. One day one of the elephants hurt his leg
badly. A long splinter of wood went into his leg and he was in great pain. He
could not take it out. As time went on the pain increased.
He had heard the carpenters cutting wood nearby. He walked slowly and came to
them and laid down in front of them. The carpenters saw a splinter of wood
sticking out of his foot. They gently cut open the foot and removed the splinter.
They washed the foot clean and put some medicinal leaves and roots on it and
dressed it. The elephant was grateful to the carpenters. Whenever the carpenters
came to the forest for wood he helped them to carry logs to the rivers.
