Q.1. Read the following passage carefully: (5)
(A) When Della had finished crying she patted her cheeks with the powder rag. She stood by
the window and looked out dully at a grey cat walking along a grey fence in a gray
backyard. Tomorrow would be Christmas Day, and she had only $1.87 with which to buy
Jim, her husband, a present. She had been saving every cent she could for mother but
twenty dollars week-which was the total of their income-- doesn't leave much for
saving. Expenses had been greater than she had calculated. They always are. And now
she had only $1.87 to buy a present for Jim. Many happy hours she had spent planning
for something nice for him. Something fine and rare-- something worthy of the honor of
being owned by Jim.
There was a mirror between the windows of the room. Suddenly she whirled from the
window and stood before the glass. Her eyes were shining brilliantly, but her face had
lost its color within twenty seconds. Rapidly she pulled down her hair and let it fall to its
full length. Now there were two possessions of the James Dillingham Youngs in which
they both took a mighty pride. One was Jim’s gold watch that had been his father's and
his grandfather's. The other was Della's hair.
On the basis of your reading of the passage answer the questions given below:

Explanation:
1. Della was obviously sad and upset indicated from the first line of the passage. She was crying. When she looked at herself with the mirror, with a great idea in mind, the color of her face changed, meaning her first great idea had a bigger or equal consequence to the benefits she'd get.
2. She had exactly $1.87 (oddly specific).
3. She wants to buy the golden watch for Jim.
4. Jim's, possible family heirloom, and Della's hair.
5. Words possibly are, fine, rare and worthy.
that's all I could think. sorry if it's wrong
