Answer:

Explanation:

1)Jim Macpherson had written the letter to his wife Mrs. Macpherson on during December 1914. It was written during the First World War.

2)Jim wrote the letter to tell his wife about a wonderful thing that had happened on Christmas day. The British and the Germans were engaged in a war yet on this day both the troops met in no mans land. It was a thing of wonder because right in the middle of a war the warring soldiers were making peace.

3)Before joining army ,Hans Wolf played the Cello in the orchestra and Jim Macpherson a school teacher in Dorset.

4)Hans Wolf had never been to Dorset nor to England. But he knew it because he had read about it in his favourite book Far From the Madding Crowd written by Thomas Hardy.

5) Jim Macpherson did not come back from the war. It is because the cello taped box had a note paper on it where he had written that "to be buried with me when the time comes'. It is clear that he never came back.
