1 . You need very specialized area’s and environments (lots of water) to grow rice.

The geographical conditions for Rice Cultivation are :

Temperature: 16°C – 27°C and rainfall 100 cm to 200 cm is ideal for rice growing. But rainfall during harvest times is harmful. Annual coverage temperature around 24°C is ideal.

Soil: rice is grown well on the alluvial soil or on the fertile river basins. It is also grown in mixed soil or loamy and clayey soil.

Land: Plain lands or gentle slopes are suitable for the production of rice. Because stagnancy of water is a must for the cultivation of rice.

Wheat grows with little effort by comparison. Wheat grows dry, you don’t have to water it. It grows in my area, it gets cold here. It winters over even in cold climates. Farmers can plant it in the fall and harvest the next late spring. Or they can plant in early spring and harvest late summer or early fall. Flexible. Wheat’s as close to maintenance free as you get. We get plenty of rain here but rice does not grow here no matter what type you tried, nope not happening. It’s too cold. Wheat on the other hand thinks our climate is just dandy

2. It is very sensitive to the climate soil type, irrigation , fertilizers, insects. Moreover, they require a lot of water for their growth so it need to be grown on a land where it can absorb maximum amount of water. Thus they only grow on the lands where temperature is favorably high

Q.1 Why do you think there is more wheat cultivation than rice cultivation?

» Cultivation of wheat does not require as much rainfall as rice does. Besides rainfall, rice cultivation also requires more stagnant water to be retained in the cultivated areas. Quite naturally, therefore, wheat is grown over larger areas than rice across the world.

Q.2 Why is there hardly any sugarcane production in the temperate lands?

» Sugarcane requires hot and humid climate, level land and no accumulation of water. The climatic condition is the most important factor which is affecting the cultivation of sugarcane in temperate lands like Praries.
