Q. 10. A block of 8 kg is moving with 4 m/s on a frictionless surface. This block compresses a spring and comes to rest. If spring constant is 2x10^4 N/m then find the compression in the spring.
Please remember that it is 8kg not 9kg.

k = 2  \times  {10}^{4}   = 20000

so,

 \frac{1}{2} k {x}^{2}  =  \frac{1}{2} m {v}^{2}

 \frac{1}{2}  \times 2 \times  {10}^{4}  \times  {x}^{2}  =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 8 \times 16

 {10}^{4}  {x}^{2}  = 64

 {x}^{2}  = 64 \times  {10}^{ - 4}

 x =  \sqrt{64 \times  {10}^{ - 4} }

solving this,we get

x = 8 \times  {10}^{ - 2}
