India is a federal country. Powers of Union and State are clearly defined in a federal structure.

Explanation: We have separated the administrative subjects into 3 list, namely

a. Union List - all the subject mentioned here are managed by Union Government. For example, Defense, Foreign Affairs, Currency, etc.

b. State List - all the subject mentioned here are managed by State Government. For example, Agriculture, local government, Health, etc.

c. Concurrent List - here both Union and State can take decisions regarding the subjects mentioned in this list. but the decision of the Union Government prevails over the State Government's decision. For example, Education, Forest, Marriage, etc.

c) Concurrent List- Here both Union and State government can take decisions. For example- Education,Marriage , Divorce etc.
