Solanaceae is also called as"potato family". It is a large family that is widely distributed in sub-tropics, tropics and temperate zone.

Following are the floral features of the Solanaceae family:-
- The inflorescence is cymose(solitary).
- The flowers are bisexual and actinomorphic.
- The sepals are five and united with valvate aestivation.
- The petals are five(gamosepalous) and the aestivation is valvate.
- Five, epipetalous stamens are present and the anther is bithecous.
- The gynoecium is bicarpellary and syncarpous. the ovary is superior, bilocular with oblique septa. the placenta is swollen contains many ovules. The placentation is axile.
