In crop rotation, Leguminous crops like pulses, groundnut, beans etc are sown in between the cereals crops like Wheat, Maize etc to restore the fertility of soil. ... Pulse crops are leguminous crops. They contain nitrogen fixing bacteria in nodules of their roots. These bacteria convert free nitrogen from atmosphere into usable form. This makes the soil richer in nitrogen and makes the soil fertile. This way the next cereal crop gives a better yield. So it is advisable to cultivate pulse crops in between two successive cereal crops.
