Q.17 - The base of a parallelogram is (X + 2), altitude to the base is (X-
6) and the area is (x² - 4), find out its actual area.

We are given :-

  • Altitude x-6
  • Base x+2

Solved by the formula for parallelogram :-

(Area)=(Base)*(Altitude)

x² - 4 = (x + 2) (x - 6)

- 4 = - 6x + 2x - 12

- 4 = - 4x - 12

4x = - 12 + 4 = - 8

x = - 2

But you need to consider :-

Every length of a side is positive value.

It's a TRAP

Because x+2 is a positive, x=-2 can't be a solution.

No solution, area not found.
