Coastal cities were favoured by the colonial rules because from here primary commodities could be easily exported and manufactured goods could be cheaply imported. Coastal cities such as Bombay, Calcutta & Madras were developed by the British in India. This may be mentioned as Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai also.
