They were associations of producers.

  • Among the tradesmen and artisans who set up or produced craft guilds, the most prominent were -
  1. Weaver
  2. Carpenter
  3. Hatter
  4. Blacksmith etc
  • Many artisan guilds arose as a result of increased specialisation and division of labour as cities and towns grew in population.
