Q 2. Name the process which helps in creating a suction force that helps in upward movement of
water in plants.
Answers
Answer:
The loss of water in vapour form from the leaf into the atmosphere is called transpiration. This creates a suction which pulls water from xylem cells. Thus, transpiration helps in the upward movement of cell sap or water and minerals from roots to leaves
So in the daytime, the leaves at the top of plants lose water due to perspiration, due to evaporation of water by sunlight. This creates a vacuum in the leaves which helps in the upward movement of water in plants.
In the nighttime, because there is no sunlight, this method of transpiration is not that much effective. So at this time, we see the upward movement of water by root pressure. This happens through the exchange of ions in the root which causes water to go into it, osmosis to be exact and if you want to study about it, causing the upward movement of water.
