Q.2 What is a resource? Explain the classification of resources on the basis of
exhaustibility.
Q.3. What is resource planning? Explain three processes involved in it.
Q.4. Write three differences between Khadar and Bhangar soil.
Q.5. What steps can be taken to control soil erosion in the hilly areas and arid areas?
Q.6. “The pattern of net sown area in India varies greatly from one state to another”.
Support the statement by giving two examples of states having the highest percentage of
net sown area and the two states of having the lowest percentage. Also give the main
reason for each case.
Q.7. Why has the land under forest not increased much since 1960-61?
Q.8. Explain how nature, technology and institution are interdependent on each other
with the help of a diagram.
Answers
Explanation:
no2=On the basis of exhaustibility resources are classified as; 1. Renewable resources - Renewable resources are also called as in-exhaustible/ renewable/ replenishable resources. Over the time period, through the processes of physical, chemical or mechanical changes, they can be reproduced in nature
no3=Resource planning comprises three stages: (i) Preparation of inventory of resources. (ii) Evaluation in terms of availability for development. The first stage includes surveying, mapping and measurement of characteristics and properties of resources.
no4=The khadar soils are found in the low areas of the valley, bottom of a valley which are flooded every year. The Bhangar soils are found in higher reaches, about 30 m above the flood level.
These soils are finer in texture.
The khadar is light in colour and is composed of newer deposits.
no5=The following steps are taken to control the soil erosion in hilly areas : (i) Contour ploughing : which refers to ploughing along contour lines. (ii) Terrace farming : construction of steps along the hilly areas by cutting the rock layers to reduce the flow of rivers.
no6=The fertility of the soil is not suitable for cultivation. They receive heavy rainfall which is adverse for the cultivation. Added to this, these areas are backward and the farmers are very poor and hence they lack technology method of farming. Therefore, the net sown area differs from state to state
no7=The land under forest has not increased since 1960–61 because in the post-independence era demand for more land to expand agriculture, mainly after Green Revolution, developmental works and infrastructural facilities, led to clearance of forests areas. Industrialization and urbanization also decreased the forest area.
no8=already given the diagram.
