  • CHCOCH- carbonyl.
  • An organic compound burns with a sooty flame, it is an unsaturated compound. Because, when an unsaturated compound is burned it will give a yellow flame with lots of smoke. This is the sooty flame. This happens due to incomplete combustion. When the compound is burned in a limited supply of oxygen, it will release CO (Carbon monoxide) in place of CO2 resulting in incomplete combustion. Hence, unsaturated compound gives sooty flame due to incomplete combustion.
  • In the equation below methane (CH4) is being burned. The oxygen will combine with carbon and the hydrogen in the methane molecule to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) & water (H2O). The balanced reaction is as under/ as follows: CH4+ 2O2---->CO2 + 2{H2O}
  • When soap is added to water, micelle formation takes place, this is because the hydrocarbon chains of soap molecules are hydrophobic while the ionic ends are hydrophilic and hence soluble in water. Micelle will not form in all types of solvents. It will form in such type of solvent where soap is insoluble in that particular solvent.
