You can think of the y-coordinates along the graph as the frequency of their corresponding x-coordinates . The highest point of the graph represents the highest frequency, and if you trace its x-value, it happens to sit in the middle of the graph, hence why mode(x-value that traces to the highest y-value on the graph) = median(middle x-value of the graph).
