The Change of state can occurred by the change in temperature as well as pressure. Also, sometimes both methods are used simulataneously but with opposite intentions for more effective results. Let me explain how, the Question.

The phenomenon of change of matter from one state to another state and back to original state by altering temperature or pressure or both. This process is also known as Interconversion of matter.

 \large{ \boxed{ \sf{ \purple{ solids \:  \rightleftharpoons \: Liquids \:  \rightleftharpoons \: Gases}}}}

♣️ By altering temperature:

  • The solids can easily be converted into liquids and liquids to gases by applying temperature. And, the gases can be cooled to liquid and liquid to solid by decreasing or taking away temperature.
  • The temperature increases the overall energy of the matter and thus, also the kinetic energy. The kinetic energy excites the particles and for this reason only, the particles starts moving fastly and get converted into liquids and gases. And vice-versa occurs during decrease of temperature.
  • The various processes in the interconversion of states from solids to gases are Melting/fusion, Evaporation and while cooling, Condensation and freezing.

♣️ By altering pressure:

  • The change of state of matter can also be done by applying or removing pressure. When a substance is compressed, the inter particular spaces/ voids between the particles decreases and ultimately it converted into another state.
  • For Example: LPG used in our homes are compressed at high pressure and stored in liquid from which comes out in gaseous form.

♣️ By altering both temperature and pressure:

  • The interconversion of state can also be done by increasing the temperature and decreasing the pressure and vice-versa.
  • For Example: Generally, we liquefy gases by applying high pressure and low temperature.

  • Interconversion of states of matter.( All the processes ).
