Q 3. (B) Write equations for the following statements.
(Do not solve the equation) (4) Marks

1. The sum of seven times a number and 11 is forty.

2. One-third of a number k minus nine is twelve.

3. The number m divided by five, gives 35.

4. Reena’s age is 6 years less than twice of Asha’s age. Reena is 44 years old.

Here are the answers :

1. The sum of seven times a number and 11 is forty.

Ans) let number = x

then, 7x + 11 =40

2. One-third of a number k minus nine is twelve.

Ans) let number = k

then, \frac{1}{3}*k - 9 = 12

3) The number m divided by five, gives 35.

Ans) let number = m

then, \frac{m}{5} = 35

4) Reena’s age is 6 years less than twice of Asha’s age. Reena is 44 years old.

Ans) Reena = 44 ; Asha = x

then, 2x-6 = 44
