Assume the total no. of voters as x
Candidate A
- Total no. of votes won = 144 which is nothing but 62x / 100
- The total percentage of the votes won = 62%
Candidate B
- Total no. of votes won = not known
- The total percentage of the votes won = 100% - 62% = 38%
- This means the no. of votes won = 38/100 * x = 38x / 100
Therefore these all informations imply that,
62x / 100 - 38x / 100 = 144
24x / 100 = 144
24x = 144 * 100
x = 14400/24
x = 600
