GIVEN :-

  • the sum of the ages of two brother is 25 years
  • the difference between the ages of two brother is 3 years.

TO FIND :-

  • Ages of both brothers.

SOLUTION :-

▪︎Let the age of first brother is x years

▪︎ Age of second brother is y

sum of age,

⇒ x + y = 25

⇒ x = 25 - y ------------------(1)

Difference of age,

⇒ x - y = 3

⇒ 25 - y - y = 3

⇒ 25 - 2y = 3

⇒ -2y = 3 - 25

⇒ -2y = -22

⇒ y = -22/-2

⇒ y = 11 -------------------(2)

Now put the value of y in Equation 1,

⇒ x = 25 - y

⇒ x = 25 - 11

⇒ x = 14

Hence their ages be 14 years and 11 years.

VERIFICATION :-

Sum of ages = 25

⇒ x + y = 25

⇒ 14 + 11 = 25

⇒ 25 = 25

Difference of ages = 3

⇒ x - y = 3

⇒ 14 - 11 = 3

⇒ 3 = 3

L.H.S = R.H.S
