a) Biosphere is a narrow zone of the earth where land, water and air interact with each other to support life. It consists of plant and animal kingdom together.

b) Global warming: The increase in Earth's average temperature over a long period of time. Carbon dioxide: A gas released by the burning of coal, natural gas, oil, and wood that traps heat in the atmosphere. Carbon footprint: The amount of carbon dioxide one human releases into the environment in a year.

c) Scale is the ratio between the actual distance on the ground and the distance shown on the map.

d) The day-to-day conditions of the atmosphere at a place with respect to elements like humidity, temperature, wind speed, rainfall, etc. is called the weather of that place. Weather can be cloudy, sunny, rainy, stormy or clear. It is a part of the natural phenomenon which maintains the equilibrium in the atmosphere.

e) Any natural mass of mineral matter that makes up the earth's crust is called a rock. The earth's crust is made up of various types of rocks of different texture, size and colour.

f) Weathering : It is the process by which rocks on the land surface break down or crumble because of the action of the elements of weather such as rain, frost and temperature changes.
