Sir,
This letter is to gather your attention about the growing rate of illiteracy in India. In spite of implementing the right to education act and introduction of mid day meals to attract more students to complete their basic education, parents from the lower strata of the society still feel reluctant to send their children to school because they think that earning money is more important than completing education. This is resulting in increased number of child labors, children begging at the streets, getting involved in various addictions and malpractices which is resulting in the degradation of the society. Through your daily I would like the common people to take action and stop these practices. The literates can come forward to bring about a massive change. Whenever we see a child below the age of 14 working as a labourer we should stop them. Speaking personally to the parents of students who are drop outs from school and convincing them about the importance of education might be helpful. Organising meetings, campaigns, making mid-day meals more delicious, distribution of free books and stationery to slum dwellers can make people change their mindset about sending their children to school.
I hope that through this letter a lot of fellow people will come forward and take necessary action to eradicate illiteracy completely from India.
Sicerely,
Madhu
