Answer:
Mumbai, received a record-breaking unprecedented deluge in just 4 days from Saturday to Tuesday!! According to the weather-tracking agency, Skymet, on Monday, Mumbai broke 10 years’ rainfall record; it received around 550 mm average rainfall of the entire month of June in just 3 days!! The heavy rains brought the life of Mumbaikars to a standstill!
The consequences of the devastating deluge :
Local trains services disrupted
The incessant rains on Tuesday night left many parts of the financial capital water-logged and badly affected the Central Railway. Most of the low-lying railway stations like Kurla and Sion were submerged in water for long hours, thus disrupting the local train services of Central Railway. The railway tracks at Kanjurmarg were knee-deep in water. In addition, the railway tracks near Nanepada (Mulund) were also sunk in rainwater. Thus, the Central Railway was forced to halt its services between Thane and CST. The services were halted at 1 a.m. on Wednesday and remained non-functional till afternoon. The services started in the evening but were not normal.
Security wall collapses; kills watchman
The heavy downpour on Tuesday night became a nightmare for the poor. Due to incessant rains, the security wall at many places collapsed, proving fatal to the poor people living in slums close to the wall. A person in Mulund, too, died due to the safety fall collapsing over him. The tragic incident happened at Model Town in Mulund West. The safety wall of Falguni Society collapsed over the watchman, Gambhir Singh, who was later found seriously injured, buried under the debris of the broken wall. He was rushed to civil hospital but, alas, the doctors proclaimed him dead.
