SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

If a vector is represented by  \sf{x \hat{i} + y \hat{j} + z \hat{k}}

, it's length in x-y plane is

EVALUATION

Here the given vector is

 \sf{x \hat{i} + y \hat{j} + z \hat{k}}

Thus x - component = x

y - component = y

z - component = z

We know that for any point on xy plane we have z = 0

Hence the required length

 \sf{ =  \sqrt{ {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2} +  {0}^{2}  } }

 \sf{ =  \sqrt{ {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}   } }
