Given :

Number of vernier scale divisions = 5

Number of main scale divisions = 4

To find :

The least count of the vernier callipers

Solution :

  • The least count of the vernier callipers is the difference between one smallest reading on the main scale and the smallest reading on vernier scale
  • The least count of the vernier callipers is given by the formula

            L.C = \frac{MSD}{No\:of\:VSD}

  • By substituting the values in the above formula

            L.C=\frac{1mm}{5}

            L.C=0.2mm

The least count of the vernier callipers is 0.2 m
