In a polygon,

BO = 7x + 4

and

OD = 18

To find:

The value of x

Solution:

In the figure attached below, we can see that

AB = CD and CD = DA

So, we can conclude

⇒ The given polygon ABCD is a parallelogram

We know that,

→ The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other ←

In parallelogram ABCD,

Diagonals AC & BD intersect each other at O

∴ BO = OD & AO = OC ....... (i)

Now, From (i), we get

BO = OD

substituting the given values

7x + 4 = 18

⇒ 7x = 18 - 4

⇒ 7x = 14

⇒ x = \frac{14}{7}

x = 2

Thus, \boxed{\bold{The \:value\:of \:x \:is\: \underline{2}.}}

Question :- .In the given polygon, BO = 7x + 4 and OD = 18. Find x ?

Solution :-

As from image we can see that, we have given

→ BC is parallel to AD .

→ AB is parallel to DC.

So, Polygon ABCD is a parallelogram.

Now, Diagonals BD and CA of parallelogram are intersecting at O.

As we know :-

  • The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.

Therefore,

BO = OD

AO = OC.

Than,

→ BO = OD

→ 7x + 4 = 18

→ 7x = 18 - 4

→ 7x = 14

Dividing both sides by 7,

→ x = 2. (Ans.)

Hence, value of x will be 2.
