Answer :-

  • The value of x is 6.

Solution :-

 \longmapsto\sf6x - 5 = 4x + 7

Putting the constant and variable terms on different sides by the method of transposition,

  \longmapsto\sf6x - 4x = 7 + 5

On simplifying,

  \longmapsto\sf2x = 12

Transposing 2 from LHS to RHS, changing it's sign,

  \longmapsto\sf x =  \dfrac{12}{ \: 2}

Dividing 12 by 2,

  \longmapsto\sf x = 6

To check our answer, let's put 6 in the place of x and see whether LHS = RHS.

LHS

 \hookrightarrow\rm6x - 5

Substituting the value of x,

 \hookrightarrow\rm6 \times 6 - 5

Applying the BODMAS rule and multiplying 6 with 6 first,

 \hookrightarrow\rm36 - 5

Subtracting 5 from 36,

 \hookrightarrow\rm31

RHS

 \hookrightarrow\rm4x + 7

Substituting the value of x,

 \hookrightarrow\rm4 \times 6 + 7

Applying the BODMAS rule and multiplying 4 with 6 first,

 \hookrightarrow\rm24 + 7

Adding 7 to 24,

 \hookrightarrow\rm31

-----------------------------------------------------------

LHS = RHS.

Hence verified!
