Given :- Trichy Express starts from Trichy at 6:30 a.m. and travels at 50 kmph towards Salem situated 100 km away. At 7:00 a.m., Chennal-Trichy Express leaves Salem towards Trichy and travels at 40 kmph. At 7:30 a.m., Mr. Sundar, traffic inspector at Salem, realizes that both the trains are running on the same track. How much time does he have to avert a head-on collision between the two trains ?

A. 20 minutes

B. 15 minutes

C. 25 minutes

D. 30 minutes

Answer :-

→ Speed of Trichy Express = 50 km/h

So,

→ From 6 : 30 AM to 7 : 00 AM Trichy Express travel = 50 * (1/2) = 25 km .

now,

→ Distance left to be covered = 100 - 25 = 75 km.

also,

→ speed of Chennal-Trichy Express = 40 km/h

then,

→ Usual speed of both trains = 40 + 50 = 90 km/h { opposite direction. }

so,

→ Distance covered upto 7:30 AM = 90 * (1/2) = 45 km.

now,

→ Distance left = 75 - 45 = 30 km .

then,

→ Both trains will meet after = (30/90) = (1/3) hours = (1/3) * 60 = 20 minutes .

therefore, traffic inspector have 20 minutes to avert a head-on collision between the two trains.
