Q-5. a) Define matter, How is matter classified give example to each type.
b) Give reason, why a gass exerts pressure on the walls of the container. 3
c) Mention the important properties of a solution
Answers
Answer:
a.)) Anything that has mass and occupies space is called Matter.
Matter is of three types:-
1.) Solid
2.) Liquid
3.) Gases
Solid;-- The molecules in a solid are tightly packed i.e., intermolecular distance is very small.
Liquid:--The molecules in a liquid are not very tightly packed, so intermolecular distance is moderate.
Gases :-- The molecules in a gases are very loosely packed i.e., the intermolecular distance is large.
b.)) Gas pressure is defined as the force exerted by a gas per unit area on the walls of the container vessel.
The pressure exerted by a gas is due to the random motion of particles in the gas. Gases have weak intermolecular forces and the particles in continuous random motion and these particles collide with the walls of the container. These collisions with the walls of the container exerts pressure on the gas.
c.)) *lt is a homogeneous mixture.
*Particles in a solution do not settle down which means the solution is stable.
*The concentration is the ratio of solute to solvent.
*lt is concentrated if it contains too much of solute or otherwise it is dilute if it contains large amount of solvent.
