Answer:

Do you feel online teaching is better than classroom teaching? What if your internet connection disrupts amidst your online classes? How far do you think the shift from classroom teaching to online teaching is going to exist even after COVID-19? These are some of the frequent thoughts that disturb you when you think of online education in India.

In recent times, Indian education is flourishing at a higher rate. The enrollment ratio has increased tremendously in the elementary as well as in higher education. It is in fact, regarded as one of the major contributors to the economic development of the country.

A lot of advancement could be seen in the education system with government funds and free education. However, there are some areas where up-gradation is expected, and this pandemic diagnosed the digital-divide that prevails in the country; when the government decided to shift to online teaching. The graph of technology in India has undoubtedly risen. But, when it comes to promoting this aspect in the educational sector, especially in schools, it does not show a satisfactory result.

The teaching-learning process in India is still bounded to the classroom. Students pursue the traditional ways of reading from textbooks, submitting hand-written assignments, and sit for classroom examinations. There are a few institutes that follow some of the virtual aspects of education, like the sharing of PDF textbooks or submission of assignments through Google Classroom and Google Docs. But, the concept of online classes is a rare scenario in the majority of educational institutions in India.

However, things have changed dramatically as a result of nation-wide shutdown due to COVID-19. At least 320 million students in India had to confine themselves inside their homes resulting in the loss of their studies.

Schools and institutions started encountering the pressure of course completion, and thus came up with the scheme of taking online classes to continue students’ learning. This undoubtedly is a great initiative taken forward to avoid any sort of loss induced by the students. But, do you think every student in India is benefited from this?

India consists of both public and private sector educational institutions, and that the ratio of the former is much higher. It is also a known fact that most of the government based institutions (especially schools) are based in the rural part of the country, leading to difficulty in taking part in online classes.

hope this helps you
