Q 5 CASE BASED QUESTIONS:
Read the given passage and answer the questions given below:
A slice of raw potato shows the presence of starch. Potatoes get this starch from their leaves and store it. Leaves prepare their food in the presence of sunlight and a green coloured substance present in them. For this, they also use water and carbon dioxide. This process is called photosynthesis. Oxygen is given out in this process. The food prepared by leaves ultimately gets stored in different parts of the plant. We have seen that the stem supplies the leaf with water. The leaf uses the water to make food. The leaves also lose water through transpiration.
The component of food present in potato is:
(i) Starch
(ii) Protein
(iii) Minerals
(iv) Fats
Green leaves can prepare food in presence of sunlight, carbon dioxide and water by the process of:
(i) Transpiration
(ii) Photosynthesis
(iii) Cooking
(iv) None of these
(c) The functions of stem are:
(i) Transport water from roots to different parts of the plant.
(ii) Transport prepared food to different parts of the plant.
(iii) Both (i) and (ii)
(iv) None of these.
