  • Indirect speech :-

The message of the speaker is reported in our own words.

Some rules while changing into indirect speech :-

  • All inverted commas and question mark are omitted and the sentence ends with full stop.
  • That is added before the indirect statement in Assertive Sentence , If /whether is added before the indirect statement in interrogative sentence.
  • Even present tense will be converted into past tense.

Answer:

(i) He requested me to take my book out.

(ii) She ordered me to open the window.

(iii) He asked Where my father was.

(iv) Our teacher said that the earth revolves around the sun.

Explanation:

Narration Rule

S O N

1 2 3

1st person (I, We) of Reported Speech (R.S) change according to subject of Reporting Verb(R.V)

2nd person (You,Thou ) of R.S change according to object R.V.

3rd Person of R.S no change.

i) and ii) are Imperative Sentence So,

Reporting Verb (said) will change into reques, advice, order, forbid etc.

In the place of inverted commas ("") to will use before the verb of R.S.

iii) It's a Intrrogative Sentence So,

Reporting Verb (said) will change into ask, enquire of etc.

In the place of inverted commas ("") if or whether will use. (When There is intrrogative pronoun in R.S)

We don't need to use if or whether when the sentence of R.S begins with intrrogative pronoun like who, what, who, etc.

Intrrogative Sentence should be transformed into assertive sentence. Question mark will also removed.

iv) It's a assertive sentence, but there is Universal Truth in the R.S. So, its tense remain unchanged although the R.V may be in past tense.
