Abu Rayhan al-Biruni was born in Khwarazm, a region adjoining the Aral Sea now known as Karakalpakstan. Al Biruni was a great scholar during the medieval period. He came to India with Mahmud of Ghazni Al- Biruni wrote a book Kitab-ul-Hind on India. Al-Biruni is one of the major figures of Islamic mathematics.
