Given :- Two positive numbers are in the ratio of 7:11. If the sum of their squares is equal to 680, find the greater number ?

A. 12

B. 14

C. 24

D. 22

Answer :-

Let us assume that the given numbers are 7x and 11x respectively .

so,

→ (7x)² + (11x)² = 680

→ 49x² + 121x² = 680

→ 170x² = 680

→ x² = (680/170)

→ x² = 4

→ x = ± 2 .

since both number are positive .

therefore,

→ The greater number = 11 * 2 = 22 .

if asked smaller number it will be 7 * 2 = 14 .
