The freezing point of 0.1M NaCl sol. is more than that of 0.1M MgCl2 sol.

  • NaCl breaks down into Na⁺ and Cl⁻ when in aqueous solution and the total concentration of ions become 0.1M+ 0.1M = 0.2M
  • When MgCl₂ is in aqueous solution, it breaks down into Mg²⁺ and 2Cl⁻, therefore the total concentration becomes 0.1M +0.2M = 0.3M
  • Since the concentration of MgCl₂ is more in aqueous solution than NaCl therefore its freezing point will also be greater than NaCl.
