when closely related individuals mate with each other, or inbreed, the offspring are often not as fit as the offspring of two unrelated individuals. Why?​

When 2 closely related individuals are inbred, there's a fair chance of recessive genes expressing themselves, thus making the offsprings less fit when compared to offsprings of unrelated individuals!
