Question :-

If the 9th term of an AP be zero, then the ratio of its 29th and 19th term is-

(A) 12

(B) 21

(C) 1:3

(D) 3:1

Answer :-

Let ‘a’ be the first term and ‘d’ the common difference.

⇒ 9th term of the AP = A9 = a + 8d

Given: a + 8d = 0

⇒ a = -8d -----(1)

Now, A29 = a + 28d

⇒ -8d + 28d

= 20d -----(2) (? From (1))

A19 = a + 18d

⇒ -8d + 18d

= 10d -----(3) ( From (1))

∴ A29/A19

= 20d/10d

= 2/1

= 2 : 1 (From (2) and (3))

Hence, option (B) is correct
