Given :  Two cuboids having same surface area

cuboid 1 :  7 cm by 4 cm by 2 cm

Cuboid 2 :  y cm by 2 cm by 1 cm

To Find : Value of y

Solution:

Cuboid surface area = 2 ( lb + bh + lh )

Cuboid  1 surface area  = 2 ( 7 * 4 + 4 * 2 + 7 * 2)

= 2( 28 + 8 + 14)

= 2( 50)

Cuboid 2 surface area  = 2 ( y* 2 + 2 * 1 + y* 1)

= 2( 3y + 2 )

Equate both

2( 3y + 2 ) = 2( 50)

=> 3y + 2 = 50

=> 3y = 48

=> y = 16

Value of y is 16
