At the end of the story all the six human beings died with their logs clutched in their hands but no one uses the log due the racism , prejudice and feeling of hatred amongst each other.

To change their fate they should show friendliness and warmth towards each other and each of the man should have used their log to rekindle the fire

Title of the poem

this poem starts with description of the atmosphere which is very cold .the cold is said to be bleak and bitter because these six individuals are not warm and friendly with each other and there no hope for anyone to survive.the discrimination between these individuals is so overwhelming that no one uses the wooden stick .thus the title is justified as they donot die from cold outside but due to the cold within their hearts.
