Q.9 The molecules NF3, andBF3 all have molecular formulae of the type XF. But they have different
structural formulas. Keeping in view VSEPR theory sketch the shape of each molecule and explain
the origin of differing in shapes.

\fbox\pink{A}\fbox\blue{n}\fbox\purple{s}\fbox\green{w}\fbox\red{e}\fbox\orange{r}The molecule BF3 and NF3, both are covalent compounds but BF3 is non-polar and NF3 is polar. The reason is that BF3 is symmetrical molecule whereas NF3 is unsymmetrical.

In symmetrical molecule, the individual bond dipoles cancel each other whereas in unsymmetrical molecules, they do not.

BF3 is plane triangular molecule whereas NF3 has pyramidal geometry.
