Q. A car of mass 1000 kg is moving with velocity of 10 Meter per second and is acted upon by a forward force of 100 N due to engine and retarding force of 500 N calculate the velocity after 10 seconds.

m=1000kg
initial velocity = u=10 m/s
Ff=100N
retarding force means slow down the car = Fr=500N
here Ff is on +ve x axis then Fr which is opp to Ff will be on -ve x axis so
Fnet = Ff+Fr=100-500 = -400N
we know that F=ma
-400=1000 x a
a=-2/5
then V=u+at
velocity after t=10 sec is
V= 10 + (-2/5) x 10
=10- 20/5
= (50-20)/5
= 30/5 =6 m/s
therefore velocity after 10 sec is 6m/s
