Q. A car of mass 500 kg starts from rest and is acted upon by a forward force of 200 N due to engine and retarding force of 50 N. Calculate the velocity after 5 seconds.

ANSWER : 1.5 m/s

Explanation:

M = 500 kg

F = 200 N

f = 50 N

T = 5 sec

F = m (v-u)/t

v = final velocity

u = initial velocity

F = 500 (v-u)/5

F = 200N - 50N = 150N

150N = force ,, so we can write 150 instead of F .

150 = 500 (v-u)/ 5 ,,,,,, (100v-u) 100 is in standard form by the division of 5 and  500 .

150 = 100 (v-u)

150/100 = (v-u)

(v-u) = 1.5

= 1.5 m/s ----  answer .
