Q) A mass M, attached to a horizontal spring., executes S.H.M. with amplitude A1. When the mass M passes through its mean position then a smaller mass m is placed over it and both of them move together with amplitude A2. The ratio of (A1/A2) is?

total energy of string being stretched = E = 1/2kx²
energy of string with amplitude = E = 1/2k (A1)²
E is also the kinetic energy
M is the mean position
As E is the independent mass so, energy remains the same
so it will be
A1 = A2
or 1: 1

Explanation:

A mass M, attached to a horizontal spring, executes SHM with a amplitude A1. When the mass M passes through its mean position then a smaller mass m is placed over it and both of them move together with amplitude A2. The ratio of (A1/A2) is 1:1 -
