Answer:

Phonons is the correct answer

Explanation:

A quanta of energy of lattice vibration is known as phonons. Phonons are analogous to photons These phonons are of two types namely:

  1. Optical phonons
  2. Acoustic phonons

Optical phonons:

Optical phonons are quantized lattice energy vibrations which is produced when two or more charged particles in a primitive cell move in opposite directions with the center of mass at rest.

This type of quanta mode produces the highest energies of vibration for the wavelength equivalent to infinity.

Acoustic phonons:

In acoustic phonons, are the type of phonons where the coherent movements of atoms of the lattice are out of their equilibrium positions.

If the displacement is in the direction of propagation, then in some areas the atoms will be closer to each other, whereas in others farther apart, as in a sound wave in air.

That is why it is called as acoustic phonons.
