An ideal machine is a machine in which energy given as the output is equal to the input energy. The principle of an ideal machine is to convert all the given energy into a useful energy. This means that all the energy that is given in as the input must be converted to the required energy as the output and it must not be converted to any other form of energy that is not required.

Hence, we say that the machine is 100% efficient.

You may be wondering why it is called an ideal machine. This is because in real life a machine is not 100% efficient. This means that all the input energy is not converted into the required output energy. Some of the energy given to the machine is converted to some energy that is not required like heat and sound.

We say that the energy is wasted in the form of heat and sound because if the machine is required to do some work on a body, then the heat and sound energy is not needed.

Note: Note that although in a real machine some of the energy is wasted, the law of conservation of energy is obeyed. The energy is wasted does not mean that the energy is destroyed. It is converted into a form of energy, which is not required.
