Answer:
Explanation:
a)
- Non cyclic photophosphorylation involves both (photosystem)PSI and PSII.
- They work in series first PSII and then PSI.
- They are connected through an electron transport chain .
- Both ATP and NADPH + H+ are synthesized.
- First in PSII the P680 molecule absorbs 680 nm wavelength of red light causing electrons to become excited and jump into an orbit which is farther from the atomic nucleus.
- These electrons are picked up by the electron acceptor which passes them to an electron transport system of cytochromes. this movement of electron is downhill on redox scale.
- Then these electrons pass to the pigments of PSI (P700). They are excited when they receive light of wavelength 700 nm and these are again picked up by another electron acceptor.
- The addition of these electrons reduces NADP+ to NADPH + H+.
- This whole scheme of transfer of electrons is called Z- Scheme.
- The electrons which were removed from PSII must be replaced and hence it is achieved by splitting of water. this is the step were O2 is released in photosynthesis.
- The main final products are ATP AND NADPH+ H+.
b)
- This cycle takes place in inner membrane of thylakoids of chloroplast.
- The proton and O2 formed during splitting of water are released within the lumen of the thylakoids.
