Saturated hydrocarbons are those in which carbon atoms are connected by only a single bond. They are known as alkanes. Ex- Methene

Unsaturated hydrocarbons are those in which carbon atoms are connected by double or triple bonds. Ex- Hetene

A Saturated hydrocarbon is a hydrocarbon in which all the carbon-carbon bonds are single bonds. A hydrocarbon is an organic compound whose only constituents are carbon and hydrogen. As the name suggests, saturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons in which all the carbon atoms are bonded to four other atoms and are ‘saturated’, implying that no carbon-carbon multiple bonds exist in these organic compounds

..Unsaturated hydrocarbons are mostly absorbed in fuming sulphuric acid (15–20% SO3) with sulphonation of the unsaturated bonds according to the equations(8.2a)C6H6+H2SO4=C6H5SO2OH+H2O(8.2b)C6H5SO2OH + H2SO4 = C6H4(SO2OH)2+H2OSulphuric acid can be activated by addition of Ag2SO4, AgNO3 or uranyl, vanadium or mercury salts, which increase the absorption of ethylene.
