Q) Do you find any resemblance between the people of Sikkim and Ladakh; analyze in terms of religion, occupation, source of income, agriculture, economy?

I have lived in Sikkim for a decade so I can explain about Sikkim than Ladakh. I will try to cover all the topics.

People of Sikkim and Ladakh are similar in many ways.

  1. Sikkim and Ladakh both are situated at high altitude. All year round it is mostly cool and cold but in winters there in snowfall in many areas.
  2. Sikkim is a very diverse state with many religions. Most prominent religions are Hinduism and Vajrayan Buddhism. In north it mostly concentrated with buddhism and the concntration becomes a little low when we come towards the south whereas in Ladakh the main religion is Buddhism (12%).
  3. Main type of occupation of Sikkim and Ladakh is Agriculture. Both share almost same type of geograpical situation due to which they have agriculture same type of occupation. Though many professional jobs are also available there.
  4. The major sector of income of Sikkim & Ladakh is occupied by Agriculture (Terrace Farming) and tourism.
  5. The agricultural sector of Sikkim produced various types of products such as Cardamom, Millet, Tea etc. whereas Ladakh produces agricultural products like Wheat and Barley.
  6. Both the people of Sikkim and Ladakh wear warm clothes which help them to survive in the harsh cold winters. The whether gets warmer as we go down in altitude and vice versa.
